Summer Safety Tips: Be Safe While Mowing Your Lawn With These 4 Safety Tips

Sometimes things we do frequently become so second nature, it’s easy to forget about personal safety.  Every year injuries and deaths occur as a result of lawnmower accidents.  Make sure to observe these lawnmower safety tips every time you cut your grass to help avoid injury.

  1. Know your mower – If you have a new mower, read the instructions and get to know the controls and how to stop it quickly if necessary.
  2. Wear protective clothing – Steel toe shoes are ideal.  But at least wear ones with enclosed toes and non-slip soles.  Avoid sandals.  Hearing protection should also be worn.
  3. Be aware of your surroundings – This includes not only looking out for hazards like rocks that can be thrown from the mower, but looking out for children and pets too.  It’s best if they wait indoors.
  4. Unclog carefully – If you need to unclog the mower make sure to disconnect the spark plug first so that the mower can’t accidentally start.  And be careful around the blade.
