Our Agency was originally founded in 1945 as the John Holran Agency and in 1957 William J. Durkin joined Mr. Holran. Bill, a World War II veteran and graduate of St. Peter’s College was the father of six sons. In 1964, he became the President of the Independent Agents of Bergen County and a member of the board of Valley Savings and Loan. He purchased the John Holran Agency and renamed it the Holran Durkin Agency. Over the next few years several other agencies were acquired and the Agency began it current growth trend.

Upon graduation from college, Andrew F. Durkin joined the agency in 1974. With the additional growth Andy brought to the agency and to properly reflect the ownership and direction the Agency was taking, the name was changed to the Durkin Agency.

Andy, being very civic minded, joined the Englewood Hospital and Medical Center Association in 1981 and became a member of the Medical Center’s Board of Trustees in 1992. He was elected Chairman of the Board of Trustees in 2000 and served until his term expired in 2006. To this day he still sits on the Board and is the chairman of several committees.

Andy was also a member of the Executive Board of the Independent Agents of Bergen county from 1979 to 1986 and President from 1984-1985. He was also a member of the Executive Board of the Independent Agents of New Jersey from 1996-1998. He currently sits on the Board of Directors of Service Insurance Company.

He has also served on the Board of Directors of the Alpine Leaming Center (A school for Autistic Children), Bergen County Boy Scouts of America, Bergen Performing Arts Center and the Zoning Board of Adjustment for Haworth, NJ. Andy was a Congressional Appointee to President Clinton’s White House conference on Small Business from 1994- 1995. He is currently the CEO of Durkin Agency and sits on the Board of Directors at NVE Bank.

Through all this he managed to have a family of three girls -2 of which got bit by the insurance bug and work for the Agency. He is also a grandfather.

After graduating from Lehigh and having a successful career as a CPA with Price Waterhouse, Brian F. Durkin joined the Agency in 1989. At this time, William became the Chairman of the Board, Andy the President and Brian the Vice President. Brian became the third member of the family to rise to position of President of the Independent Agents of Bergen and Hudson Counties in 1994. He was also the President of the New Jersey Young Agents Council in 1993 and the President of the Independent Agents of New Jersey from 2006 to 2007.

Golf is Brian’s passion and he currently runs the Independent Agents Trusted Choice Junior Classic. He recently received the “2013 Volunteer of the Year Award” given by the Independent Agents of New Jersey for his many years a Chairman on the New Jersey Junior Golf Committee. Brian is also active in the Ramsey Rotary Club and the Lehigh University Alumni Association.

Eileen Durkin joined the agency full time in 1993 as the Office Manager, Technology Specialist and Bookkeeper. A member of The National Association of Insurance Women since 1995 she has served as a variety of Committee Chairs and as Treasurer for seven years. Eileen received her AAI (Accredited Advisor in Insurance) from the Insurance Institute of America in 1998. She was named Insurance Professional of the Year in 2005 by the Professional Insurance Agents (PIA) of New Jersey. Eileen is currently the Vice President of the Durkin Agency.

In order to have a larger presence in Bergen County, Durkin Agency purchased the GHP Insurance Agency and successfully opened another office in 2004 in Ramsey, New Jersey.
